D23 Expo, which took place from September 9 to September 11, 2022, was an action-packed weekend for Avatar fans. Lightstorm Entertainment brought the world of Pandora to Anaheim, California for Disney’s Ultimate Fan Event, and Avatar and McFarlane Toys drew an enthusiastic crowd to their showcase of the latest releases and more from the collaboration. Following the initial sneak peek of the Avatar collectible figure line at San Diego Comic-Con 2022, Todd McFarlane brought the entire range to the D23 show floor — along with so much more.
Since the announcement by Lightstorm Entertainment, Disney, and McFarlane Toys of their collaboration for a new line of Avatar collectible figures, audiences have seen Todd McFarlane showcase some of the offerings, including the incredible, fully-articulated 26”-wingspan Mega Banshee. On Saturday, September 10, 2022, McFarlane and Lightstorm Entertainment’s Josh Izzo took over the D23 Expo stage. Audience members in the room and those watching the livestream from around the world were on the edge of their seats as host Juju Green, Izzo, and McFarlane revealed more of the incredible line. McFarlane and Izzo presented the detailed Omatikaya Rainforest set from the World of Pandora line, 7” Jake Sully and Neytiri figures, and Mega Banshees. D23 attendees got their first glimpse of new figures from Avatar: The Way of Water — a 7-inch Jake Sully and Skimwing Megafig — and were ecstatic to learn that there are many more Avatar-inspired toys to come. With the entire Avatar collection now available for preorder, everyone can soon have a piece of Pandora right in their homes.
Working with the legendary Todd McFarlane and his team has been a dream collaboration for Lightstorm. With the first Avatar sequel set to hit theaters December 16, 2022, and with three more films on the way, this partnership will continue to release collectibles, figures, and toys for audiences to enjoy. The livestream wasn’t the only time the breathtaking line was on display. The McFarlane Toys booth on the show floor let the crowd get up close and personal with the entire Avatar range — but the immersive experience didn’t stop there. It wouldn’t be the Ultimate Fan Experience without a little face time with an industry legend. Enthusiastic McFarlane and Avatar fans lined up to get their merch and personal items signed by Todd McFarlane himself.
The eventful Expo brought memorable moments that audiences are still talking about. With the theatrical rerelease of Avatar this fall, and Avatar: The Way of Water coming to theaters this December, there was no better time for attendees to dive back into all things Pandora. McFarlane’s reveals in the booth on the D23 show floor and on the event stage brought this thrilling new era of Avatar to life, and into fans' hands.
