On the cusp of becoming an adult in the Metkayina clan, Ao’nung is a skilled diver and hunter, who is often looked up to by other young males in his community. As the son of Ronal and Tonowari, he is instructed to help the Sully children assimilate to a reef lifestyle. He is initially bewildered at the arrival of the Sully family and does not take well to being asked to help the children adapt.
