Ronal
RonalThe fiercely independent tsahìk (shaman) of the Metkayina reef clan, Ronal provided spiritual support, healing, and led all ceremonies for her clan. Notable among these is the Coming of Age ceremony, in which young Na’vi and tulkun receive their first tolu (tattoo) on the side of their faces. Outside of her tsahìk responsibilities, Ronal was mother to Tsireya and Ao’Nung, and an expert hunter and warrior in her own right. She had a strong sense of duty to protect her family and people. As she navigated the Uturu (sanctuary) of the Sully family, however, Ronal’s principles were challenged by the inexorable pull of war on her people.
In the aftermath of the Battle at the Three Brothers Rocks, Jake Sully insisted on preparing the Metkayina for future conflict by arming them with Skypeople weaponry salvaged from the Sea Dragon wreck. Resentful of the conflict’s toll on her clan, and her own spirit sister, Ronal initially confronted Jake. However, her husband’s counsel caused her to pause and relent, temporarily trusting the wisdom of Toruk Makto.
Jake’s fears came to fruition as the RDA targeted the Calf Communion at the Cove of the Ancestors for a tulkun hunt. After being spurred to action by Lo’ak, Tsireya, Ao’Nung, and Rotxo, Ronal and the Metkayina rally to protect the mothers and calves leading to a massive battle at cove. Despite showing signs of labor, Ronal rode to the defense of the tulkun. In a heroic effort to slow the RDA’s advance, Ronal was mortally wounded by a crab suit speargun. She was saved from drowning by Neytiri, and under Neytiri’s protection and guidance, Ronal gave birth to her daughter Pril before succumbing to her wounds.
