na'vi
Ninat
Storytelling through song is a time-honored tradition among the Na’vi. Without a written language, oral tradition and song are core communication tools for all Na’vi, but for the Omatikaya Clan it is also a fundamental element of the clan culture. The Omatikaya possess a Keeper of Songs, who sings both the epic tales of the Na’vi People’s vast history and the personal stories and songs of those who are lost by way of their individual Songcords. The Keeper of Songs remembers everything in song.
After the Fall of Hometree, Neytiri’s cousin Ninat was chosen to replace the former Keeper of Songs, Rini, who was lost in the destruction wrought by the RDA. Though many Omatikaya are capable singers or musicians, Ninat is hailed as the best of her age with a voice as clear as Polyphemus is bright. Day to day, she stirs the Clan awake through the awakening of the day or praises Eywa for the bounties of a successful hunt. In times of celebration or ceremony, Ninat is called upon to lend her soaring voice to commemorate and memorialize these moments in the Clan’s ever-growing history.
