The Pandora Conservation Initiative (PCI) is a collective of scientists, xenoanthropologists, and researchers whose mission is to study the world of Pandora. Members of this organization study everything they can about Pandora’s unique geology, flora, and fauna, as well as look for ways to repair the environmental damage created by humans during the RDA mining operations and subsequent conflicts. Partnered with Alpha Centauri Expeditions (ACE), the PCI focuses heavily on the recovery of the Valley of Mo’ara’s ecosystem. Through the use of a modified Avatar Program, PCI scientists study recovery efforts by monitoring keystone species throughout the valley — including the magnificent mountain banshee, or ikran.

Through the “Mountain Banshee Project,” PCI scientists have discovered that the health of the local banshee population is a key signpost for the overall effectiveness of the PCI’s efforts to clean up the RDA’s pollution and damage. Collaborating with ACE, the PCI is able to match human visitors with their own avatars via an improved genetic matching — allowing travelers to experience Pandora firsthand from the back of an ikran. This in turn allows the PCI to track the vitals of banshees for their own research.

The PCI aims to continue rehabilitation efforts to other environments on Pandora.
