A journey into the reefs of Pandora is taking shape at Disney California Adventure Park with the Avatar Destination! At D23: The Ultimate Fan Event, Disney unveiled never before seen concept art and a 1:50 scale model, offering fans an exciting new look at the upcoming attraction.
The currently unnamed Avatar Destination will include a new biome distinct from Pandora – The World of Avatar at Disney’s Animal Kingdom in Orlando. Instead of the bioluminescent rainforest and floating Hallelujah Mountains of the Pandoran canopy featured in Florida, the new location is inspired by the Cove of the Ancestors, home to the sacred site of the Metkayina Clan.
Alongside the model on display in the Imagineering Pavilion, Disney released new concept art by Avatar: The Way of Water and Avatar: Fire and Ash Co-Production Designer, Dylan Cole. The concept art offers a new look at the destination's centerpiece, the Cove of the Ancestors and its main attraction: a thrilling boat ride on the open seas of Pandora. Picture gliding across the reef as bioluminescent plants illuminate the water below you. A Zukzuk sits perched on a nearby rock, while off in the distance, two Ikran battle atop a floating island. The ride will take guests across Pandora encountering the moon’s most majestic wonders and greatest dangers. A previously revealed piece of concept art teases the moment a massive Tulkun bursts from the surface alongside the vessel as a reminder of just deep into a new world you’ll be.
A look at the model ride vehicle adds more intrigue for fans to speculate about the type of attraction being created. Look carefully at every detail! Na’vi weaving on the sides of the vehicle reflect the artistry present throughout the Avatar franchise.
With Avatar: Fire and Ash available now on Disney+, the concept art and model shown at D23 offer an early sense of how the film franchise and the Parks are being developed hand in hand, and expanding the ways in which fans can experience the world of Pandora.
