Mangkwan Clan
MangkwanPandora’s Na’vi clans are culturally and biologically diverse, but none is more hated or feared than the Mangkwan clan. After a major upheaval, the Mangkwan- or Ash clan- have forsaken the Na’vi principles of balance and interconnectedness. Instead, they revolt against Eywa and her followers, raiding and pillaging other clans to survive in the aftermath of the trauma inflicted upon them.

Background
A generation ago, the Mangkwan clan was devastated by the eruption of a volcano in their territory. This disaster caused mass death and destruction, forcing the Mangkwan away from their home for a time. When the survivors returned, they found their Hometree fallen, a blackened and charred husk. Lacking a tsahìk to lead them and interpret the will of Eywa, the surviving Mangkwan quickly grew to resent Eywa’s lack of intervention to protect their clan from the disaster they had experienced.
Over time, bitterness and anger consumed the Mangkwan. Stubborn and proud, rather than abandon their home the Mangkwan adapted. Forced to scavenge far beyond their territory to survive, their way of life evolved. Techniques rooted in practicality, like keeping hunted animals alive for the journey back to Hometree to preserve their meat, became brutal tradition as the Mangkwan integrated pain and torture as an outward expression of their own painful history.
The Mangkwan clan’s evolution was shaped by the rise of their young, inexorable leader: Varang. Decrying her father, the clan’s olo’eyktan, as a weak leader, Varang poisoned him and took control. Enthralled by her dark tutelage as tsahìk, the Mangkwan forsook Eywa to become not just survivors, but conquerors- preying upon the other Na’vi clans for survival and resources. Tales of their brutality began to spread among the clans, with many dismissing them as outlandish or false. However, as the shadow of the Mangkwan grew, it became harder and harder to deny the truth in the aftermath of their emboldened raids against villages and caravans.
Under Varang, the Mangkwan have become the most feared clan on Pandora. They are brutal and remorseless, owning the pain and trauma inflicted on them and often bringing death and destruction to everyone in their path. Mangkwan warriors cover themselves in a base of grayish white ash, with bands of red and black paint. They scar and pierce themselves symbolically, showing that they can endure pain as a way of projecting strength. Their ritual violence, burning and brutalizing the villages they pillage, is designed to strike terror into the hearts of those they conquer. Their newfound, tenuous alliance with the RDA has severely escalated their capacity for violence.
