A frightening vision of power and strength, the Nightwraith (Na’vi: Ska’avum) is a rare, aerial apex predator. As a distant relative of the tetrapteron family tree, the Nightwraith shares characteristics of the Great Western tetrapteron and the Wetland’s Luna tetrapteron, all the while being uncharacteristically large enough to warrant a species delineation. It has four sets of wings, each with ten folding vanes that splay out and provide a more dextrous level of aerial control than the ikran. Its hollow, bony crest, or casque, is a fearsome weapon. The Nightwraith is known to use the casque to spear the operculum of its prey when hunting, for defense against predators or in mating rituals. Its hind claws are similarly deadly, and it can strike aerial prey like a hawk or falcon to devastating effect.
