Explore a New Corner of Pandora in the First Avatar: Fire and Ash Trailer

July 28, 2025

Brand-new footage teases the Mangkwan Clan, ledby the fierce warrior Varang, ahead of the film’s debut this December.

The first trailer for Avatar: Fire and Ash is here, unveiling the next chapter in James Cameron’s epic saga. The third film in the series — following Avatar and Avatar: The Way of Water, both streaming now on Disney+ — returns to the lush, immersive world of Pandora, where Jake Sully (Sam Worthington), Neytiri (Zoe Saldaña), and their family must face off against a deadly new threat.

The Fire and Ash trailer debuted exclusively this weekend on the big screen, playing in theaters ahead of The Fantastic Four: First Steps from Marvel Studios. Now, fans everywhere can get a first look at the film’s stunning visuals and tense drama.

Fire and Ash picks up after the events of 2022’s Avatar: The Way of Water, reintroducing the tight-knit Sully family. Worthington returns as Marine-turned-Na’vi-leader Jake, with Saldaña as his partner, the fierce Na’vi warrior Neytiri. The Sullys and their children — Kiri (Sigourney Weaver), Lo’ak (Britain Dalton), Tuk (Trinity Jo-Li Bliss), and the human Spider (Jack Champion)  — have found a home with the ocean-dwelling Metkayina Clan. But Fire and Ash puts them on a collision course with a new threat: the fiery Mangkwan Clan, also known as the Ash People.

Throughout the first two films, audiences have visited different corners of Pandora’s diverse biomes — from lush, green jungles to crystalline seas. But Fire and Ash will introduce a new location: Ash Village, home of the Mangkwan. A volcanic eruption has left the landscape barren, and the ashy gray scenery marks a stark contrast to the colorful rainforests and reefs found elsewhere on the planet.

Leading the Mangkwan Clan is the imperious antagonist Varang (Oona Chaplin). Clad in a red and black headdress, the trailer shows her facing off against the young Kiri, hissing, “Your goddess has no dominion here.”

And the trailer gives fans a glimpse of another new Na’vi tribe: the nomadic Wind Traders, who soar high above the skies of Pandora. They are led by their chief Peylak (David Thewlis).

Also returning are Kate Winslet as the Metkayina leader Ronal and Stephen Lang as the brutal Colonel Miles Quaritch. Avatar: Fire and Ash has a screenplay by James Cameron, Rick Jaffa, and Amanda Silver, with a story by James Cameron, Rick Jaffa, Amanda Silver, Josh Friedman, and Shane Salerno.

Experience Avatar: Fire and Ash only in theaters December 19, 2025.
