These massive land crabs scuttle across the rainforest floor on their 20 multi-jointed legs. The crab is protected from predators by an incredibly hard shell, which can reach up to 5 ft (1.5 m) in diameter, and a tail that is covered in sharp quills.
Among the various Na'vi clans, the Tipani clan holds the cuirass crab in high regard. The warriors of the Tipani clan frequently hunt for the discarded cuirass crab carapaces after they have molted and use the incredibly hard and protective outer carapace as armor and shields. The Tipani clan revere these shields as sacred objects.
