No Wind Trader fleet is possible without their domestication of the Windray (Na’vi: Kreytu’um), a large, docile air-dweller which the Tlalim Clan has formed a symbiotic partnership with to navigate their fleets across Pandora. These massive, cuttlefish-like creatures have a hydrogen gas ballast, much like the Medusoid, but rely on forward momentum to actually remain airborne. Their wings undulate to provide propulsion, which allow them to navigate their environment with more intentionality than the Medusoid. This particular skill makes the Windray an invaluable addition to Wind Trader flotillas.

Domesticated Windrays are raised from birth among the Wind Traders, trained to follow the fleet as it drifts across Pandora. Wind Traders harness the Windray to the bow of a gondola and a single navigator forms a bond with the Windray to help steer or guide it along their path. This navigator is solely responsible for caring for the Windray, knowing when to give the animal a reprieve or seek out food. When the wind is favorable, the Windrays are set loose to feed, trailing their two whiskers along the surface of water to attract fish which they spear with a long, barbed tongue. Otherwise, if the navigator senses that the Windray is growing tired, the Wind Traders will deftly swap the creatures from among the others following the flotilla, who remain harnessed and ready at all times.
