There are many Pandoran creatures that one would not want to run afoul of, but the rivernox centipede is high on that list. These massive, insect-like creatures can grow to lengths of 10 to 15 feet, and though they are primarily known to feed on fish and small arthropods like crabs, they will occasionally ambush larger prey who find their way into the swamps — including Na’vi.

The rivernox has two venomous mandibles at its head, which are used for defense or to capture and incapacitate prey. On its tail are two similar appendages called cerci, which help with grasping, defensive capacity, and mating. The cerci hold glands that excrete a foul odor to deter predators.

Despite their frightening appearance, however, creatures like the rivernox centipede play a vital role in the revitalization of the ecosystem near the Mangkwan’s devastated territory, feeding on decay and recycling key nutrients back into the recovering ecosystem.
