Compared to Earth, Pandora has much weaker gravity and denser air, so the rapid opening of the lizard’s fan lifts it rapidly into the air and away from danger. When unfurled, the fan lizard stretches over 3 ft 4 in (1 m) in diameter. Na’vi children enjoy disturbing resting fan lizards, and then marveling as these luminous magenta discs float away to safety.
